Property Insurance: What you need to know but were a bit too timid to ask – The Basics and Recent Developments

Presented by the Real Property Section and Insurance Law Section

CLE Credits:
CT: 1.0 CLE Credits
*NY: 1.0 CLE Credits

Program Description:

Property Insurance is a “must have” for every homeowner and every business. But what losses are really covered by the typical policy? Come learn about what is commonly covered, what is not, and how the most recent battles between policyholders and insurers have been resolved. This seminar will provide an overview of various types of property insurance. The panelists will explore the perils covered – from fire to windstorm to frozen pipes to vandalism – and how those losses will be calculated. They will also address common provisions that can add to a policy’s protections – such as business interruption coverage – and common exclusions that limit coverage. The panel will conclude with a review of recent case law addressing property policy disputes and the issues that may be addressed by the Connecticut appellate courts in the coming year.
